Did you know that from 1 January 2023, there are new minimum wage rates applicable to most employees?
The national minimum wage is the minimum hourly pay rate that must be paid and applies to all employees whether full time, part time, temporary, casual or seasonal employees. There are certain exceptions for those employed by close family members and craft apprentices.
The Workplace Relations Commission has set out the rates applicable and the link can be found here
- Under 18 – Employees are entitled to 7.91 per hour or 70% of the National Minimum Wage
- 18 Years – Employees are entitled to 9.04 or 80% of the National Minimum Wage
- 19 Years – Employees are entitled to 10.17 or 90% of the National Minimum Wage
- 20 Years + – Employees are entitled to 11.30 per hour or 100% of the National Minimum Wage
These rates of pay are different to those whose employment may be covered by Sectoral Employment Orders or Regulation Employment Orders such as construction or contract cleaning etc.
