Data Protection – Conviction for sending unsolicited text messages and emails

Following the conviction of four companies in the Dublin District Court yesterday (December 3, 2012) for sending unsolicited text messages and emails, the Data Protection Commissioner has warned that companies that persist in sending such unsolicited marketing material will be prosecuted and face fines of up to EURO 250,000.

All four companies pleaded guilty following investigations by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
